The old wood around the pipe was old and rotted.

We removed the decking and sistered in a 2 x 4 to give the pipe more support.

Brand new plywood decking will help ensure the pipe stays put.

Although we at My-Pros aren't electricians by trade, we know an electrical problem when we see one, and we certainly saw one at the home of Jeremy L. of Machesney Park, IL. When Jeremy called us with a request for new shingles, we came ready and willing to get the job done in a timely fashion. But then we learned about the electrical problem Jeremy had been dealing with for some time and knew we couldn't leave without fixing it.
The problem had to do with the pipe that tethers the electrical service drop line to Jeremy's home. For years the pipe had been giving Jeremy grief because it wasn't securely installed on the roof and the wood around it was rotting away. If we didn't do anything about it, there was a good chance that the pipe would have become dislodged and fallen off his roof. Had this happened, it would have been devastating for Jeremy because it would have taken the electrical drop line down with it, leaving Jeremy entirely without power in his home. Furthermore, he would have had to deal with the dangerous situation of having a live electrical line laying in his back yard. We couldn't let such a devastating fate befall such a fine customer.
To fix Jeremy's urgent problem, we went to work removing the old shingles, underlayment, and rotten plywood boards from around the pipe. We then stabilized the pipe by sistering in a 2 x 4 between the rafters to give the pipe some support. We also installed brand new plywood boards to give the pipe further support. To ensure that these boards would not begin to rot like the old ones, we went to work waterproofing the section of the roof around the pipe along with the rest of Jeremy's roof. We achieved this by installing the proper flashing boot around the pipe as well as ice and water shield and synthetic underlayment. Together, these three protective godsends will keep Jeremy's pipe from trouble for the long haul.
Of course, we also didn't forget about Jeremy's original request, and brand new CertainTeed Mission Brown architectural shingles were installed to make Jeremy's roof look good as new. We also performed some necessary fascia and soffit repairs--all in the name of leaving Jeremy's home looking better than it did when we got there!
Jeremy appreciates the fact that we were able to fix a problem he had been dealing with for years and couldn't be happier with his new roof. Likewise, we at My-Pros love that we were able to make Jeremy's life a bit easier by going the extra mile to help him out. Getting to help people is one of the very best things about being in this business.
